3 reasons face cream can't fix wrinkles

If life were simple, the answer to wrinkles could be found in a tub of cream that sits prettily on your nightstand. Just one application per day and you’re as smooth and wrinkle-free as you were when you were 20.

Unfortunately, life isn’t simple. No matter what they claim, face creams are never going to be able to turn back the hands of time.

They can help, sure, but if you want a lasting difference then they are little more than a waste of your hard-earned cash. Here’s why.

1. Wrinkles aren’t just about skin

We get wrinkles for a variety of reasons, but the biggest is how we produce and utilise less collagen as we get older. This causes the skin to lose its elasticity, resulting in facial lines. It’s also why our joints become stiffer as we age; the problem is entirely systemic. Even if you slather your face in a cream that claims to contain collagen, it’s still not going to get anywhere near the amount your body used to have naturally.

2. Gravity

You’re not just battling skin care when it comes to preventing wrinkles; you’re fighting against the forces of the universe itself. Gravity pulls everything downwards. That’s why skin sags and breasts head towards the floor after a certain age. There’s no skin cream in the world that can battle that; it takes the use of anti-wrinkle injections to bolster and support the structure of your face in a very literal way. Think of your face, after the age of 25, as needing a solid structure to resist the gravitational pull.

3. Wrinkles come from expressions

When is a wrinkle not a wrinkle? When it’s a facial expression line. Often found around the eyes (“crows feet”) or the mouth, expression lines can’t be fixed by a cream – they are the products of years of smiles and frowns. Only Botox is able to penetrate deep into that aforementioned supporting structure to lift things up; a face cream is simply too superficial to battle against time itself.

So while face creams have their uses in improving texture and skin colour, to really get rid of wrinkles, you’re going to need something more powerful. Contact First Clinical Aesthetics today to find out more about ridding yourself of wrinkles.
